The importance of governance.
Good governance sets the stage for effective leadership and oversight - both critical to the success of today's organizations. Governance is the predominant work of the board of directors.
The board is the highest level authority within an organization. The board makes major leadership decisions such as: choosing management, setting the strategic direction for the company, establishing policy, setting the ethical tone for the organization and monitoring outcomes.
The board needs to design an effective and efficient governance system in order to do its work well and to add value to the organization or business. A high-functioning board is a tremendous strategic asset - to the organization and to its shareholder/owners and stakeholders.
