Boards and success

The board of directors sets the stage for organizational and corporate success. It does this in three important ways:

• Focus on people — populate and support a top-notch board of directors; secure responsible management; build and maintain mutually-supportive partnerships with shareholders and stakeholders,
• Focus on good governance processes — lead with, and continually monitor, efficient and effective policies, systems and processes,
• Focus on the long term sustainability of the organization — set long term, high level goals and seek to achieve those goals in an ethical manner.

With the right people, the right processes and the right focus, a board truly adds value — at the board table, for the company or the organization, and for society overall. In its leadership role within an organization or a firm, a board influences everyday lives in many ways.

• Well-regulated agencies that ensure public interest representation in professions and industry;
• Community, recreational and cultural programs and services that benefit communities; human interaction and connectedness, appreciation of arts and culture and healthy bodies and minds;
